Introduction

Ever since the very beginning processors needed a heatsink device to cool them down and keep them in Operating temperatures, nowadays is no different , but the Coolers have undergone a massive change, nothing compared like the tiny stock Coolers we where used too.Today we are going to take a look at Sunbeam tech Cooler, for those that don’t know the socket 775 king Tuniq Tower 120 Coolers where made by Sunbeamtech Corporation.

The Sunbeamtech Twister 120 Cooler is a AirCooling heatsink like most Tower Coolers with a standard design, though this one uses a 3 8mm diameter heat-pipes construction, we are about to see what he is capable of and what Twister 120 has to offer.

Specifications and Features

The TWISTER 120 incorporates our newest ISO-Turbo Technology for increased cooling.  The dual 120mm MFDB fan spins in opposite direction which allows for more concentrated airflow, combined with the three 8mm heat pipes and large fin area, the TWISTER 120 offers one of the best cooling capabilities in its class.

The Twister 120 CPU Cooler , comes well packed in a very attractive box.Notice there’s a handle in the box which is handy in handling it.

At the front there’s a list of the product main features and specifications.

At the back of the box you have a Image showing how the Cooler Operates, one intake fan and other exaust.

At the right side of the Box You have a List of all the Specifications and Cooler Compatibilities , as well as FAN and Grease Paste specs!

At the left you have pictures of the main components included with this Cooler, which are the Heatsink, 2x120mm Fan’s , TX-4 High Performance Grease Paste, and a Smart Fan Controller.

Contents

After you remove the outside illustrated Box a shiny Black Box is revealed “box within a box” , the purpose of it is act has a protective case.

After you Open is inside the first thing you have access in the Top is the accessory box.

The HeatSink come protected by a plastic case, and with the Pré-Installed 120mm Fan’s

Here it is at a glance what you get inside the Box!Here i would like to speak about the User’s Manual has it is one of the very best i ever put my eyes upon.

The acessories come with a foam protective package!Notice Twister 120 already includes a syringe of High Performance Grease, so you won’t need to buy other.

The Included Acesórries

  • Backplate
  • Intel  LGA1366/1156/775 retention Kit
  • AMD k8/AM2/AM2+/AM3 retention Kit
  • TX-4 Thermal Grease Paste
  • Fan Controller Rheosmart

The Heatsink  in detail

The Cooler come with Two 120mm FAN’s Installed and has a Three 8mm U-shaped Heatpipes Design. This PIC really shows the heatsink aluminium attractive pattern.

At the Top  Notice the heatpipes forming a V shape, and you can see that FAN’s are attached to the heatsink by rubber which have some advantages over others attaching methods. Will explain Further in the review.

Heatsink

Here we can see that the heatsink comes with the pré-attached bracket, and the U-Shapped heatpipes design.

Heatsink side view notice the detail of the layers compared to Scythe Yasya, if you know Yasya is one of the Cooler’s with most finner Aluminium layers on the market.

Closer look on the CPU contact zone.Notice that the Twister 120 heatpipes have a larger diameter then the Yasya.

The Cooler is built with “HDT” or a heatpipe direct touch design.Unlike many others this one comes with a fully flat and even surface and already with a mirror finish polish.

The FAN’s in detail

Close Up on the intake FAN wich is marked has ISO-Turbo A, and has the conector on the right side.FAN specs are 90,65 CFM (max) mesured airflow with 16-20 dBA noise at 1000-2000RPM’s  of speed. The MFDB means Magnetic Fluid Dynamic Bearing Fan!

Close up on the exhaust fan or marked has ISO-Turbo B and has a connector on the left side.Besides that you can notice the rubber Pin which are used to attach both the fan’s to the heatsink, is one of the thing i liked most, it’s simple and easy to install , that’s one feature you want in your Cooler, unlike most attaching systems based on Clips that can be “a pain in the ass”.

The smart Fan controller is one of the accessories you won’t exclude, because when you connect both the FAN’s to it and connect the controller to your Mainboard PWM header, it allows both FAN’s to become PWM (Pulsar with modulation mode) therefor their Speed with increase with CPU temperatures. And you have the VR (voltage regulated mode) , which allows you to control the fan speed manually using the controller.

I think that Covers it all, let’s test this baby out!

Instalation and Tests

If you don’t have ow profile memories, this is how you should install, though if you have 2×16 PCI-E ports with a Single card installed you can use the lower one and allow more space for the intake FAN.

The testing included the following software:

  • Prime95
  • CPUID HW Monitor
  • CPU-Z
  • Prime95 and Memtest+

Testing Methodology

System was fully tested for stability, and runned Prime95 for about ~4 Hours for each reading, Ambient temperature of ~26ºC outside Case when Twister 120 was tested.Readings are in Degrees Celsius.

(If your resolution doesn’t allow for a Full View of the graphs click on them)

1st – Part Default Settings

Note:Here it was a surprise how Quiet it was on Low Speed!

Screenshots (idle screenshots not relevant)

NO OC / PWM LOAD

NO OC / VR-Low Speed LOAD

2nd – Part Overclocked Settings

Note: Better temperatures then Scythe Yasya , even at Low Speed.

Screenshots(idle screenshots not relevant)

OC / PWM LOAD

OC / High Speed LOAD

OC / Low Speed LOAD

Noise and Fan Speeds

BEWARE:Noise Readings can change with with other testing methodology, i took the readings with side painel On. So  Fan Speeds and Noise readings are has follows.

I was quite impressed with the Low Noise with Low Speeds!

Conclusion

At this Point in time you are probably asking Why buy this Cooler instead of so many other there are around? I mean there are a lot of other good coolers around, how is this one a better value? This one really has some special features you wont find in all of the coolers which are:

  • The main are the Aluminium fins, they closed on the sides (though they have small holes to avoid negative air pressure) . Which gives you three great advantages.1st- You won’t have hot air slipping from the sides and spreading all over your case. 2nd-That fact allows pretty much all the intake air to be exhausted by the rear cooling fan so the hot air will be sent outside of the Case.3rd- This fact makes it that both Fan’s are still very cooling effective even at low speeds.
  • Comes with two 1200mm MFDB Pré installed Silent Fan’s.With both of the Fan’s installed it’s actually smaller then the Scythe Yasya, and don’t forget i have using Geil Gaming Evo memories!
  • Comes with TX-4 High Performance Grease and with a retencion kit made with steel, not plastic junk like other coolers
  • It’s a HDT heatsink , and comes  with fully even and lapped surface
  • Rheosmart Fan Controller included, this product is sold by Sunbeam separately and can be used in other coolers along with it’s interesting features.
  • 40$
  • The main  Sunbeamtech managed to make cooler with less heatpipes, bigger and tried to optimize their performance with the aluminium fins construction
  • 2x120mm MFDB Pré installed Fan’s and heatsink bracket(Intake/Exaust)
  • Rheosmart Fan Controller
  • TX-4 High Performance Grease included
  • Very Quiet, better yet not audible  in Low Speeds
  • Support fo rall the  sockets on the market, with Universal mounting kit
  • HDT,fully even and lapped.
  • Availability in the market reduced?

Special Thanks to Sunbeamtech for providing this sample

Greetings
