kids playing video games

According to a study by Michigan State University (MSU), kids who play more video games tend to be more creative.

The research included 491 children of 12 years of age who often play video games, which showed to have impact on their creativity.

What does impact more?

However, the general use of mobile phones, computers and internet was unrelated to creativity.

The results showed that boys play more and that they prefer games with “sports and violence”, while girls prefer games that “involve interaction with others”, however the type of game didn’t have an impact on the level of gained creativity.

The study was unable to conclude which aspecs of the game promoted increased creativity, however manufacturers / designers of the games should “identify those aspects that promote” the increase of creativity.

” Once they do that, video games can be designed to optimize the development of creativity while retaining their entertainment values such that a new generation of video games will blur the distinction between education and entertainment,” said Linda Jackson, professor of psychology and lead researcher on the project.

MSU (Michigan State University) said that they used the Torrance Test of Creativity-Figural to assess children’s creativity. This test includes tasks such as drawing a picture from a curved shape, giving a title to the draw and writing a story about it.
